Mathematics is an integral part of basic science, engineering, and computer science. Realizing the importance of this discipline in the development and advancement of Saudi Arabia, the university initiated the undergraduate program in 1967. The first batch of 5 students graduated in 1972. Currently, the department has about 55 full-time faculty members specialized in several areas of research.

The department provides 2 four-year undergraduate programs (BS Math and BS Actuarial Science and Financial Mathematics). Moreover, the department also offers two undergraduate concentrations (Data Science & Analytics and Computational Analytics).

The department has well-established graduate programs leading to Master of Science in Mathematics and Statistics, and a PhD program in Mathematics
